Matthew S. Cooper was born on March 1, 2006 in Saint George, Utah. He is the son of Ken and Laura Cooper. Matt has a brother named Ben (8 yrs. old) and sister named Kenedi (12 yrs. old).
Matt is very much a miracle baby! We are lucky to have him with us. Matt was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy following a traumatic birth. Matt suffered a brain injury due to lack of oxygen as a result of a uterine rupture that affected his fine, gross and oral motor skills. Shortly after Matt's birth the neonatologist was preparing to tell us that Matt would not survive; however, what they did not know at the time is that Matthew is a fighter! In fact, he has been fighting ever since to enjoy life and reach his full potential.
In order to reach his full potential he needs the intensive physical therapy program that the Now I Can Foudation has to offer. In March 2009 Matt attended his first three week session at Now I Can. Since then he has attended a second four week session. Between the two sessions and a home therapy program implemented in between his visits Matthew has made dramatic improvements. For example, Matthew sat up without any assistance for the first time following his second session!
To our amazement, at the end of each four hour workout, Matthew answers "YES!" when the therapy teams asks him if he wants to come back tomorrow. He loves going back each day because he recognizes that he is getting stronger, more able and more confident because of the therapy Now I Can offers (www.nowican.org).
Matt has tremendous potential! The more able he becomes the more the world will see what Matt has to offer!
